I think it was about 1983 I was 12/13 I was watching my beloved Manchester United playing in the FA Cup final against Brighton.. The match ended up 2-2 but we went on to drill them 4-0 in the replay a few days later.. I had noticed that a new family had been moving in across the street from me.. But the game was on so I wasn’t paying that much attention until I heard the sound of a scooter. I looked out the window and saw a Vespa.. Mirrors, Lights, Foxes Tail the whole shabang, & a guy on it wraparound shades & fishtail parka.. He looked cool as f@#k.! I remember going to my front door and looking over at him & his scooter.. He noticed me looking over and shouted to me.. “Here mate wanna give us a hand moving in’  well f@#k I was in shock that he’d spoken to me.. But I said yeah mate.. And dandered over to help.. He introduced himself as Anto Gallagher he was about 18/19 years old and said I’m your new neighbour what do they call you I said Seany he then replied nice one Seany and then raised a 2 finger salute to me.. Which I noticed in the years later he done that to everyone.. Any how I helped him and his family move in and remember carrying in a box of albums of his I was flicking through them.. Quadrophenia Sound Track, The Jam, The Who, The Beatles to name a few.. He noticed me looking and said what type of music you into Seany.. I said I like most music but I do like The Jam… So he stuck on The Gift album on a small record player and we listened to it as we moved the boxes and stuff in to the house.. After we’d finished moving everything in to the house.. He said do you like my scooter I said yeah mate it’s class.. He said jump on the back and gave me a backer around the estate. I remember the feeling of thinking I was so cool on this scooter with the mod.. And that’s were my love for the mod scene started.. I remember persuading my mum & dad into buying me a small record player and The Gift album f@#k I must have played it so much constantly every day.. Ghosts is my fave tune on that album by the way.! The words just got me right away… Then I borrowed Quadrophenia album off Anto which totally blew me away.. I needed to see this movie.. I got my sister to rent it for me on VHS.. F@#k saying that makes me feel old.. Videos it was then.. I watched it 4 times.. Hooked.. That’s who I wanted to be a Mod like Jimmy Cooper the main character.. So I started to dress like a mod tight jeans, desert boots, Fred Perry, & Parka that was my uniform that was me I’d started on that road and I’m still travelling it.. I’ve met so many cool & great people over the years on this road & made loads of friends all over.. This story could go on & on I’ve had so much fun but I’ll leave it there.. So as I said at the beginning Once A Mod Always A Mod… KTF.. Peace People ✌️
